Mini-Review: Legion of Super-heroes

Kara, devastated by loss of Krypton struggles to adjust her new life on Earth. Superman mentors her. Meanwhile, she must contend with a mysterious group called the Dark Circle who searches for a powerful weapon held in the Academy's vault.

Meg Donnelly, Yuri Lowenthal, Darren Criss, and Darin De Paul

With all the current focus on James Gunn's new DCU, these fun animated features are more than likely going to fly under most people's radar. Although promotion was quite lackluster and the premise as not of massive scale, 'Legion of Superheroes' is a fun entry into the rebooted Dc Animated Universe.

A stacked voice cast and a deep dive into some of DC's most underrated characters is definitely this film's strongest points. Supergirl is a young flawed character who gets to grow and become a hero of her own. While she isn't perfect and no member of the roster is, she brings a lot to the table and is definitely a breath of fresh air. Another great addition is Brainiac 5 who has some overall great moments and brings a lot of humor to the film. There were some moments between him and Kara that felt quite forced, but overall they had a good bond that I hope gets explored more.

There were some decisions I weren't a fan of in the film, which mostly tie to the antagonist. I won't go into spoilers but I just feel ina universe as big as this one, there definitely could have been better options that was was presented. The rest of the cast in interesting but they feel very useless. The biggest 'wow' moment for DC fans will be the post credit scene which sets up their next film, 'Justice League: Warworld' which is a story i'm very excited to see unfold.

While this film isn't perfect, it has a load of heart and is overall a fun experience. The characters and animation are great as well as the heavy emphasis on characters. Just like with the rest of DC, this universe looks bright.
