Review: The White Lotus - 2x03

Set in a tropical resort, it follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.

Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Michael Imperioli, Haley Lu Richardson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Beatrice Grannò and Simona Tabasco.

The White Lotus episode 3 is the first episode this season that it has shown a glaring problem. As much as we all enjoyed Jennifer Coolidge in season one of the White Lotus, I believe now she has overstayed her welcome.

Proving once again, Mike White knows how to make all scenes and characters brimming with commentary & life that it becomes impossible to look away from the screen. Which is perfectly complimented, again, with its gorgeous cinematography and sound design.

As stated before, I believe Jennifer Coolidge overstayed her welcome. While I found certain moments to be quite funny and entertaining to watch, her scenes are holding back what could be perfect episodes. Her character has started to become more obnoxious and overly dumb that it becomes a pain to witness, every other character shines so bright while her’s is left in the dark.

Despite this, the episode has a great contrast of men and women stereotypes & subversion of those expectations through modern and generational views of each character, whom are all at different stages and positions in their lives. The smart decision to separate certain characters to explore this was a superb one. Each actor continues to play their role with ease, challenging some of the better performances of the first season.

While not as engaging as the first two episodes, this season continues to impress and prove that it is one of the best shows on television currently.
