Review: The White Lotus - 2x06

Set in a tropical resort, it follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.

Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Michael Imperioli, Haley Lu Richardson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Beatrice Grannò and Simona Tabasco.

The White Lotus is an episode away from wrapping its second, incredibly consistent season with character work only improving week by week. As each episode does, this explores the dynamics between everyone perfectly, along with creating subtle drama and suspense that can only end in disaster in its closing episode. As the plot thickens, relationships begin to tear apart, particularly involving Portia & Jack’s and Ethan & Harper’s relationships which will drastically change in this final episode. After the wonderfully acted and written final scene with Portia, it’s clear that there’s some very hidden dark secrets that will come out and rip open a hole of possibilities of events to follow.

As dark & tense as the show is starting to become, I can’t stop thinking and falling for the adorable relationships that both Lucia & Mia are having, my two favourite characters. Whether Lucia is using Albie or not, is yet to be seen, it’s lovely to see them together and see Albie happy. Along with Mia & Valentina, whom broke my heart this episode with her interactions with Isabella. I hope they find the happiness they need.

Keeping consistent throughout the season, the cinematography, writing, subtext & performances have all been outstanding. Each frame handled with care & every performance compliments it wonderfully, successfully portraying all the wild emotions that Mike White throws at the audience. It’s incredibly subtle in its very layered dialogue and interactions that can be broken down after many watches to truly understand each subtextual meaning & intent. Possibly even foreshadowing coming events.

Either or, episode 6 is another fantastically crafted episode that I do think should have gone on a little longer, as the finale has the difficult job of concluding many storylines. I have enough faith after this fantastic season that they’ll gracefully deliver a spectacular finale that will have fans gasping & theorising for years to come.
